1300 WHALES
Gold Coast Whale Watching

1300 WHALES Gold Coast Whale Watching Boat in the Broadwater
1300 WHALES Gold Coast Whale Watching Boat
in the Broadwater on the way out to see the whales.

Quick Facts

Tall Ship who run these whale watching cruises claim to have the biggest boat. I am not sure about that, but the MV 2000 is certainly is pretty big at 32m!

Find out why my English friends think that size does matter!

The half day and full day tours departs daily 1 June to 31 October at 9.00am from Marina Mirage, Main Beach.

The half day tour returns around 12.30pm whilst those on the full day tour get whisked off to McLarens Landing on South Stradbroke Island for a bit of island fun!

Like most tours you need to be there about half an hour before the tour departs to check-in, board the vessel and get settled.

The office for this tour is at Marina Mirage and is signposted by A Frame boards as you approach the marina from the car park.

Once you have checked-in at the main Tall Ship Cruise office you will be ushered to the boat on Arm C at Marina Mirage.
1300 Whales catamaran at Marina Mirage berth on Arm C.

The catamaran is easy to find as it is the largest boat on that arm of marina!

About This Gold Coast Whale Watching Tour Operator

The 1300 Whales tour is operated by Tall Ship Australia who also run cruises to McLaren's landing on South Stradbroke Island.

The boat used for the whale watching is a catamaran that they use for fast transfers to their South Stradbroke Island retreat - McLarens Landing.
You can combine your whale watching tour with a half day at McLarens Landing on South Stradbroke Island.  This is a particularly great way to spend a sunny day!

Review of this Gold Coast Whale Watching Tour

Some local English friends picked 1300 WHALES cruise because they weren't confident going on boats!  They are from the UK so I can understand that!  I was pretty unused to going on boats until I came to Australia!

They did their research on the different options for whale watching and picked this tour because it was the largest whale watching boat in the Marina!

Their whale watching trip was during the June/July school holidays - so it was pretty early in the season with whales only going north.

Needless to say, there were whales to see, they saw them and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise.

Overall, it was a smooth and comfortable trip. That said, they were both glad they hadn't eaten a full breakfast before they left! And were equally thankful it was only a couple of hours on the water!

Having never seen anything like the majestic and enormous humpback whales and were totally blown away by the whole experience.

Were they glad they had put their apprehension behind them to go on the boat?  Talking to them about the trip and seeing their faces light up when they talked about what they saw pretty much says it all!  It was definitely an experience they will cherish in their memories for the rest of their lives and they are certainly glad they did not miss it.

Their parting comment to me was that is was:

great value for such an incredible experience

I cannot agree more!
