This Easter holidays, Dreamworld and WhiteWater World will present the best value theme park ticket in town to mark the launch of two awesome new attractions:

The Wedgie, Australia's first looping waterslide at WhiteWater World
Illuminate, the most advanced laser spectacular to light up the streets of Dreamworld

The Wedgie

Gut wrenchingly scary, The Wedgie demands sliders cross their arms in near brace position before plummeting feet-first through a trap door and barrelling five storeys down a near vertical drop. A steep coil in the final descent followed by the sharp tug of water against bathers on splash down gives rise to the slide's cheeky name. The Wedgie is not for the faint hearted, the loose pants brigade, or anyone under 130cm in height. And, it's only on impact that you realise you've been Wedgied by WhiteWater World.

Illuminate

The fun doesn't stop after a day of bouncing around the worlds. Exclusive for the 2010 Easter holiday period, Illuminate will transform Dreamworld's Main Street each evening into an enchanting three-dimensional episode of Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants, adding hours more fun at no extra cost to day guests.

Brought to Dreamworld by Laser Vision, the creators of the world's largest light and sound show - Hong Kong's Symphony of Lights - Illuminate will entertain and engulf guests with high-powered lasers, four-metre high water screens, special effects, pyrotechnics, surround sound and digital image projection that will lift the story of SpongeBob from the unreal to the real. The family-oriented show will be followed by a premium laser spectacular that combines emotional sound tracks with visual feasts of beauty.

Australia Day is Tuesday 26 January 2010. Here are some quick ideas for things to do on Australia Day in Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Australia Day Celebrations - A huge Australia Day is planned by Gold Coast City Council. Celebrations kick off at 10am in Evandale Park, Bundall, just over Chevron Island Bridge from Surfers Paradise. Party ends around 5pm! There will be lots of entertainment including Australian Flag Raising, Citizenship ceremony, Children's rides and shows, animals, sports skill clinics including Titans and Blaze, Woodchopping, International Food court and a full scale Rodeo! Plus much more. Come and see what Australia is all about.
Get To A Beach - beaches are popular on Australia Day. This year there have been quite a few bluebottles on the Gold Coast beaches, so make sure you are swimming between the flags and let your kids know what to look out for.
Annual Buggy Convoy and Australia Day Celebration at Sanctuary Cove 9am to noon. What a great excuse to go to Sanctuary Cove, over 455 buggies are expected to take part in a cavalcade along Sanctuary Cove Boulevard to The Marine Village. Stay on for the festivities and enjoy entertainment and great food in the eateries in Sanctuary Cove.
City Pools - Why not splash around in the Gold Coast city pools. Miami, Palm Beach Currumbin, Nerang or Southport.
Australia Day shopping - supermarkets mostly on Sunday hours and most shopping centres will have cut down hours. Check with each one, but usually something like 10.30am to 4pm.

Whatever you do, make sure you get out there and experience something fun for Australia Day. Celebrate our birthday!

Since I have a teenager in the house, I am fully aware that Twilight New Moon opens in cinemas this week! There are pictures of Edward everywhere. So where to see New Moon on the Gold Coast? You will find the vampire flick in most of the major Gold Coast cinemas. My personal favourite Gold Coast cinema is Nerang Cinemas, really affordable both for the tickets and the candy bar. Worth the drive and you can book your tickets online easily. Shhhh ... Don't tell anyone, but I am actually looking forward to seeing Twilight #2 New Moon this weekend with the teenagers. I just have to pretend that I am not interested!

The new Broadwater Parklands are hosting some family entertainment this coming weekend Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November 2009. Broadwater Parklands is just across the road from Australia Fair Shopping Centre who are sponsoring the activities. So why not pop down and have some fun then pop into Australia Fair to get some Christmas Shopping done! Parts of the new parklands area are still under construction, but many of the new facilities are open or close to opening. Great opportunity to check it all out. Make sure you are prepared for the heat, as it is set to be another scorcher on Saturday.

Will Tipplers Reopen?

News from Gold Coast City Council is that half of the old Tipplers/South Stradbroke Island Resort is to be demolished over summer. However, plans are afoot to reopen part of the area for boaties with a BBQ area, public toilets and some indoor area. Next door, McLarens Landing (TallShip Cruises) is looking like they want to open bar and restaurant facilities for the boaties who are missing Tipplers! If you don't have a boat, you can hop on over to McLaren's landing with TallShip cruises. Their island adventures are a brilliant day out on a fabulous island. So totally different from the rest of the Gold Coast. Tuesday 17 Nov Update It has now been confirmed that Tipplers will be redeveloped into an eco friendly park. There will be a kiosk there by Christmas. The kiosk will sell snacks, ice creams and soft drinks. But there will be no alcohol. This may disappoint the boaties, but the is aimed at creating a family friendly environment on the island.
