Carol and Tony seem to have an uncanny knack of finding the whales! 2011 season boasted huge pods, lots of humpbacks plus some special visitors such as Minke whales, killer whales, pods of dolphins and much more. Don't worry, you can get out and about with the amazing Cooly Dive all the way through the year. They have a wealth of whale watching experience having previously run charters out of Port Macquarie for many years. During 2010, Carol and Tony changed the name of their whale watching business to Coolangatta Whale Watch to reflect the location of their business and to help people find them. When I refer to Aquatic Blue I am referring to their whale watching side of their business, as people will know both for some time to come. Aquatic Blue whale watching are located in Tweed Heads South in NSW. Their boat the Whale Watcher is moored at the Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club on the Tweed River. From the jetty it is a short trip out of Tweed Heads to the ocean and the whale watching.
One of the advantages that Aquatic Blue have over the Gold Coast whale watching cruises is that in NSW there is not a requirement to go 3 miles off shore before commencing whale watching. Whale watching can start as soon as you get out past the bar, so Aquatic Blue can have you viewing whales before you know it. The boat takes about 46 passengers. Tony and Carol are passionate about the whales and about giving visitors a great time. Carol and Tony boast a high success rate for finding those whales. In 2005 they saw Migaloo whilst they ran their charters in Port Macquarie, and again in 2009 they enjoyed a fabulous morning with the unique white humpback. It was early in the whale watching season on his migration north for breeding as he has only ever been spotted heading north. ![]() Tweed Heads bar is all that is separating you from seeing the whales when you go on an Aquatic Blue whale watching cruise. Whale watching cruises run from around 1 June to 31 October. Like most cruises you need to be there about half an hour before the cruise departs to check-in, board the vessel and get settled. Cruises are subject to weather conditions and it is recommended that you book a cruise early in your holiday to allow for changes. At peak times there are usually two cruises a day one early in the morning and the other in the early afternoon. Times change from season to season. Booking is essential for these tours. Get in early to avoid disappointment, especially during school holidays as whale watching tours fill up quickly. Overall, I cannot wait to go out with them to give a proper review. Pick ups can be arranged from accommodation from Burleigh south, but I really do think they offer something a bit different and if you are staying in any part of the Gold Coast they are worth the drive if you have a car.
