Gold Coast Accommodation Tips
For Your Gold Coast Holiday

Gold Coast Accommodation Tips
Things to consider when picking your accommodation.
  • Swimming pools - for the winter months, look for indoor options or heated. Some pools get shadowed by the high rise buildings and so are in shadow for much of the day - particularly in the Winter when the sun is lower in the sky.
This can make them a bit un-inviting. That is why it is important to have either an indoor pool or a heated pool in the winter especially if you are travelling with children.

  • Air-conditioning - especially important for summer holidays, but also for other times as the humidity often makes it feel hotter and stickier especially if you are not used to it.
Air-con can also be useful if you are staying in the hub of things as as having the windows open at night might be noisy....

Gold Coast Accommodation
at a Glance
  • Beachfront - in the centre of Surfers Paradise there is no absolute beachfront accommodation.  Some accommodation will be a few minutes stroll to the beach - so if this is important to you check this carefully.
Some websites have rather deceptive photos which suggest that the accommodation is on the beach when it is in fact no where near it!  A great way to check is to get the street address and plug it into google maps - you can then see exactly where it is and even check out the satellite photos.

  • Car Parking - beware as some accommodation charges you for car parking - a hidden cost.... or worse still don't have any car parking.
Surfers Paradise has a very strict parking regime with lots of patrols to check expired meters etc.  If you hire a car, you really need to make sure that your accommodation has parking for you.
  • Room Servicing - this is relevant to apartments rather than hotel accommodation.  Most apartment pricing includes a weekly service rather than a daily one.  You can usually pay extra for a more frequent service, either daily or twice weekly.
As much as it is nice to save the money, this is supposed to be a family holiday - so don't just transfer your household chores to a holiday location - give yourself a real break!

  • Location - sometimes (and I don't know why) the information on websites can be misleading or confusing as to where accommodation is actually situated!
If in doubt use something like google maps to pinpoint the location - that way you can see for yourself how far from the beach or the main action the accommodation really is.  On google maps you can search using street address and even switch over to satellite mode to see what it looks like!

  • Room Rates - many room rates are for 1 or 2 adults, check the small print for extra costs for children.
There is no standard way that accommodation charge for rooms so you have to read carefully any conditions when booking.
  • Extra bedding - some rooms have proper beds for their extra beds whilst others have foldaways or rollouts.
If you are staying for more than a night or two a proper bed is pretty important!  Wel,l it is for me! When I am on holiday I don't want to be grumpy from a bad night's sleep!

Getting the best deal  - Gold Coast Accommodation Tips

I find it time consuming trawling the internet for the different deals!

So I have incorporated the tool I use to search and book accommodation anywhere in the world into this website.

You can search the top online booking engines and compare online rates all in one spot.

Before you jump there, I personally find that if you know where you want to stay first you will get the most out of it.  As the only limitation is that the information it uses is gathered from the net and sometimes things like location are incorrectly categorised.

For the Gold Coast I suggest you check out the specific suburb and accommodation pages in this website to find out where you want to stay and then head to the tool.

If you are just after a great deal you can do a Gold Coast search and then head for the cheapest deal!

If you are after a deal for any city in the world, click here for a more general search, where you can search by city, country or by hotel name for a great deal from the top online booking engines.
