Gold Coast Indy may be gone, and SuperGP and one year wonder, but Gold Coast 600 is on its way from 2010! Preparations will be in full swing during October on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast In October - It's Gold Coast 600 Time

The Gold Coast 600 ran for the first time in 2010 and was a huge success. Previously the Gold Coast hosted an Indy car carnival which finished its run on the Gold Coast in 2008 and then we had the Super GP in 2009 which spawned the current event.

For many weeks before the motorsport event in Surfers Paradise there is a buzz as the preparation for the track construction in and around Surfers Paradise and Main Beach starts.

When the Super V8 cars finally roll into town the atmosphere is at FEVER pitch!

Expect to see lots of special Gold Coast 600 entertainment run during the carnival. In 2010 they had the Beach Boys - which ended up a bit controversial, but we still love the old fellas!

There is a push to make the event more family friendly, time will tell if the family zone is a hit.

If you like motorsports it is a great time for a holiday in the Gold Coast.

And for the rest of the population?

The weather is usually warm and inviting. Enjoy watersports, beach and surf activities and if it is windy kitesurfing is popular.

In the middle of the month the Ironmen and Ironwomen are out competing at the Coolangatta Gold.

It's also a great time to visit the local markets or night markets in Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach.

Why not drive up into the hills to visit the art galleries on Mt Tamborine.

Early morning walks along the beach are great with the sun rising earlier and earlier. At the beginning of October it is fully light by 6.00am and by the end of the October it is light even earlier. Early morning walks are great because the sun is still low in the sky and it is not too hot.

These early mornings make great photo opportunities with very few people on the beaches, the flat ocean and the sun behind you for some great shots of the Surfers Paradise buildings.

Tips for Travelers to Gold Coast in October

For Visitors from Overseas

October is SuperGP on the Gold Coast! If you are coming for the carinval you will need to book early to get the best accommodation. Stay in Surfers Paradise or Main Beach for the total experience. If you prefer a little quieter Broadbeach is a good pick and close enough to easily get to the track.

Super GP follows swiftly after school holidays so accommodation is pretty much in peak season until after SuperGP and it does get booked up!

Highly recommend luxury accommodation with air-conditioning.
