Spirit Of The Gold Coast
Whale Watching

Spirit of the Gold Coast whale watching boat off Surfers Paradise.
Spirit of The Gold Coast Whale watching boat off Surfers Paradise. Humpback whale in the foreground.

This photo was taken whilst I was aboard a whale watching trip with Australian Whale Watching. I have reviewed that trip including lots of photos and some video.

One of the great things about the whale watching tours in the Gold Coast is that on this day the Spirit crew were really fantastic in letting us come over to check out their whales.

Check out the photos from this incredible winter morning.

Quick Facts

Spirit of The Gold Coast have a half day whale watching tour aboard their catamaran.

Tours depart daily during the whale watching season from 1 June to 31 October at 9.00am.

The boat leaves from the private jetty at Sea World Resort, Main Beach.

Returning to Sea World Resort around 11.30am. You can combine the tour with an afternoon at Sea World Theme Park.

You need to be at the jetty about half an hour before the tour departs.

Pre-booking this tour is essential, especially during school holidays the whale watching tours are always full.

About This Gold Coast Whale Watching Tour Operator

The Spirit Of The Gold Coast Whale Watching group have been running whale watching tours for over 17 years, the last 7 out of the Gold Coast.

Prior to that they ran whale watching tours from Port Stephens, Coffs Harbour and Coolangatta.

They definitely know what they are doing!

They also put their money where their mouth is and offer a guarantee that if whales aren't sighted on your tour, they will give you free vouchers to return for another trip - obviously there are conditions, but you get the picture.

They have a record of 99% plus sightings so you can be fairly confident you will see whales!

Although the 24m catamaran can take up to 170 passengers into open waters, they limit the passengers to 145 during whale watching season to ensure that viewing is good for everyone.

Review of this Gold Coast Whale Watching Tour

I haven't been on this tour yet - but the view we got of them when we were recently on the Australian Whale Watching boat and the way they were so accommodating when we came to check out their whales - I wouldn't hesitate to try them out.

In fact, I am going on this tour a little later this season to see if I can get some photos of breaching and new born whale calves and perhaps even a pesky orca! I'll also be more prepared with the video too!

Read about my August trip to see the whales off the Gold Coast.
