Weather Forecast Next Dec January 2012

Following the end of year 2010 heavy rains in Queensland, what are the expectations for end of year 2011?

Should we plan our vacation in Australia during that period?

If I had a crystal ball on the weather I could make a fortune! Unfortunately, I don't!

Just to clear up a few things, firstly the Gold Coast was not affected by the rains, yes there was some rain, but it was not the heavy rains and flooding that was shown on the worldwide news.

December and January are rainy season in Queensland, but not necessarily so in other parts of Australia. At any time of the year you can find just about any weather you are looking for in some part of Australia.

To be perfectly honest, if I could choose the time of year I visited Australia I probably wouldn't put December and January on the top of my list for several reasons. The main reason though would be because it is our peak school summer holiday break. Prices are higher and everywhere is busy!

Apart from that, summer in Australia is an awesome time to visit. I also understand that sometimes you don't get the luxury of choosing other times when you can take a big trip and a few weeks off work, or escape northern hemisphere winter!

So to answer your question, unfortunately I cannot make a prediction about the weather (I wish I could) and how it may affect your holiday to Australia. But I can say from a personal point of view that we pretty much went about our business of enjoying the Gold Coast, Brisbane and where we holidayed in the northern part of the Sunshine Coast through December and January rain and sunshine.

On our own holiday we had several days of rain, however, we made a plan of all the things we wanted to do and see and achieved everything we set out to. We did have to change our plans around on a daily basis as we explored an area we had never been to before, but we got out there between showers or with our raincoats on. It was warm, so the rain really wasn't too much of a bother.

I think statistically the chances of us having the same rains again in this coming year would have to be fairly small, but I am finding weather around the world is more erratic that we are used to, so never say never!

If you are looking at visiting the Gold Coast here is some information about Gold Coast weather and some about weather in Australia. They may give you some more ideas about the sorts of weather you can expect in Australia.

Did you see Australia on the Oprah shows? If you did, that was filmed during December 2010 in various parts of Australia.

I hope this information helps you decide what you want to do, whether to visit Australia in December or January. If you have any more questions, please leave in the comments below and I will try to help you out.
