Looking for options in the Gold Coast for Whale Watching Australia?

Gold Coast Whale Watching at a Glance

There are many places to whale watch in Australia but the Gold Coast has some great reasons why it is a superb spot to go whale watching.

I am a complete convert.  I used to be content seeing the whales from land - but not anymore.  I have experienced these amazing creatures first hand on a whale watching cruise, I have smelled their whale spouts and worn some whale snot too! That is definitely the best way to see whales!

This guide to whale watching in the Gold Coast covers many aspects of whale watching.

Whale watching in Australia includes the majestic humpback whales and other species.
The Gold Coast is a top spot to watch the whales during the Australian whale watching season. The Gold Coast has the longest season with whales migrating north during June, July and August and returning home from August, September and October.

Some of the information includes the best times to watch the whales, the different cruise options in the Gold Coast and surrounds and many tips such as what to take with you and what to wear. You can also find photos of whales and tour reviews.

Gold Coast Australia Whale Watching Video

Here is a raw video that I took whilst on an August whale watching cruise off Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.

August is mid season, so you can see some whales still going north, whilst others are returning south and if you are lucky mothers with calves.

It was my first video with my still camera - so I apologise for how raw it is, but I thought it worth sharing as it really gives a sense of what it was like just hanging out there with the humpback whales, drifting in the ocean 9 miles off Surfers Paradise beach!

Whale watching season in the Gold Coast is during our winter and spring months.  Usually from late May to November each year.

Most whale watching tours run from the weekend closest to 1 June to late October or early November. It actually depends on the whales, and it seems to get bigger and longer each year.

The whale watching season is not uniform, you will see different things at different times.
