When is Schoolies Week in Gold Coast?

This is an very common question amongst families and non-schoolie visitors to the Gold Coast during November and December each year.

And quite right too, you want to know when the event is on, when the Gold Coast will be busy, so you can avoid it!

Official Gold Coast Schoolies Dates

2022 Schoolies Dates Gold Coast
Week 1 (Official Qld Schoolies Week) - Saturday 19 November to Friday 26 November 2022
Week 2 - Saturday 26 November to Saturday 3 December 2022
Week 3 - Saturday 3 December 2022 to Saturday 11 December 2022

2023 Schoolies Dates Gold Coast
Week 1 (Official Qld Schoolies Week) - Saturday 18 November to Friday 24 November 2023
Week 2 - Saturday 25 November to Saturday 3 December 2023
Week 3 - Saturday 2 December 2022 to Saturday 10 December 2022

Please note Week 1 dates are the official Schoolies week for Queensland school leavers. This is when there will be the official program of entertainment, schoolies events and general schoolies services are running in Surfers Paradise. Some school leavers come to the Gold Coast in the next couple of weeks, but these are the official schoolies festival dates. Note the official program finishes on Friday, but you may want to book accommodation through to the Saturday!

Qld school leavers are the first to leave school each year, the dates for other states official schoolies weeks are usually the 2 weeks following Queensland, but check your state dates.

When Does Schoolies End on The Gold Coast?

I just found out about schoolies on the Gold Coast and it coincides with our trip to Gold Coast.

Have secured a place to stay during the official week of schoolies, with a possibility to postpone the trip to the week after. Will that make a difference?

I will be travelling with 2 teenagers and 2 children and plan to spend a lot of time at the theme parks. Appreciate your advice. Thanks

There is a bit of confusion over schoolies, mainly because each of the different state in Australia have different school leaving dates.

Queensland is first cab off the rank with schoolies week starting immediately after the last day of school for Year 12 students. This means Queensland schoolies generally starts on the second to last Saturday in November and runs through to the following Friday.

Schoolies in the Gold Coast revolves mostly around Surfers Paradise and during the official schoolies week there are special events put on ONLY for the schoolies and there are many people, volunteers, counsellors, police and others around to help make sure these teenagers enjoy themselves safely.

Reaslistically, the schoolies stick around Surfers Paradise and a few venture to the theme parks during the day. The Gold Coast is quite well acquainted with the influx of these youngsters and neither accommodation managers nor attraction managers will tolerate behaviour that disrupts other visitors.

In general, we avoid Surfers at this time and generally are almost unaware they are visiting!

The following week after the Qld schoolies week, we do get some interstate schoolies from NSW and in the third week we usually get some schoolies from both NSW and Victoria. However, there are no formal Schoolie activities, parties, entertainment or supervision on the Gold Coast at this time. These schoolies are basically school leavers having a holiday in paradise to celebrate the end of their school years.

It is these two weeks that are causing some confusion, these are NOT official schoolies week in Queensland and are quite different from visiting the Gold Coast during the offical week.

I hope this has helped clear up some of the confusion, you can choose to either visit the Gold Coast during schoolies week but stay away from Surfers Paradise, or come a little later and be aware there may be more than usual numbers or teenagers on the Gold Coast at this time.

When is Gold Coast Schoolies?

Just trying to find out when schoolies generally happens?

The official Gold Coast Schoolies week is usually about the last week of November, the actual dates change each year.

That is the date for the Queensland School leavers, I understand that some of the other states have different schoolie leaving dates.

In the Gold Coast the dedicated Schoolies week which has all the entertainment etc is that last week of November, but schoolies from other states tend to flow into the Gold Coast for the next two weeks after that as well, but there aren't any formal celebrations and events.
