Family Holiday in August

We would like to spend our family holiday in August on the Gold Coast with 7 adults and 2 young children.

First we need to know if Gold Coast was affected by the recent floods?

We also need suggestions on where to stay in order to cater for everyone's needs like Golf and shopping for adults and activities for young children.

First things first. Gold Coast was NOT at all affected by the Janaury 2011 floods or February 2011 Cyclone Yasi. The Gold Coast is definitely OPEN for business!

On to your main questions, I am not quite sure how to answer exactly as there are more questions I would like to ask to pinpoint what you are really after. So I shall try to answer as best I can.

Shopping and Golf - great things for adults to do on the Gold Coast!

There is lots of shopping all over the Gold Coast and plenty of Gold Coast Golf Courses too! So pretty much anywhere you stay won't be too far away from any of those options. I will give you a couple of options in a moment.

I am reading between the lines that you would like somewhere to stay with a kids club or kids activities? If I am right, then there are a few options for child friendly accommodation mostly around Surfers Paradise. Out of those options, the one that is the stand out for the children is Paradise Resort which has the most amazing kids club and certainly the best facilities I know of on the Gold Coast. Just be aware that some of the hotels and apartments run kids clubs, but only during Australian main school holidays and August isn't one of those times.

If you don't need a kids club, then there are plenty of options. There is great golf up at Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island and shopping close by in Sanctuary Cove village (boutique resort style) and HarbourTown famous for bargains and brands.

Golf is also abundant in the central Gold Coast area around Royal Pines Resort or Palm Meadows. Both of these areas are with about 20 minutes drive to Broadbeach - Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, Robina Town Centre (probably my favourite spot for shopping) and Surfers Paradise. And about 30 minutes to Harbour Town and another favourite for boutique shopping for local and international brands at Marina Mirage.

I am not sure I have totally answered your questions, but I hope you follow the links to lots more information about each of the different things I mention.
