Christmas On Gold Coast

As a born and bred northern hemisphere girl, my first Christmas in Australia was a real eyeopener.

For most of my life Christmas meant being cooped up with family, being frozen to the bone and eating too much turkey!

Then I had my first Australian Christmas - they had me at "G'day"!

Forget the turkey and formalities!

Throw another shrimp on the barbie, down your stubbie, get your togs on and jump in the pool!

My first christmas in Australia was in 1989, and I spent it with a family I was staying with in Sydney and another British backpacker.

We had cold seafood, beer and if I recall correctly we were wearing shorts. It was an unusually wet summer in Sydney that year!

On Boxing Day, I was invited up to the holiday home of my boss's family at Pittwater in the north of Sydney, for a few days.

That really cemented the deal for me. I had to walk for half a kilometre along the beach to get to the house which had no electricity and limited water!

We went for walks, ate, sailed, had barbeques (bbqs or barbies), drank a few beers, sat on the verandah watching the sun go down over the water. I definitely experienced the magic that is Australia at Christmas time and real Aussie summer holidays! It was definitely the best christmas vacation I had ever experienced.

Christmas will never be the same!

Experience a HOT Christmas on the Beach!

Have you ever experienced a HOT Christmas on the beach? It is odd at first, but I can highly recommend Australia for a Christmas holiday or vacation.

The 2010 visit of Oprah for her ultimate Australian adventure holiday created an interest in Australia and Christmas time is a popular time of the year to visit and escape the cold northern hemisphere winter.

I know this website is about the Gold Coast - but Christmas in Australia is so totally different I just think everyone should experience it at least once.

Okay, once won't be enough, but we can work on that bit later!

Now I am biased, but it would be great to slip the Gold Coast into your itinerary. When you find yourself in the Gold Coast at Christmas there is certainly plenty to keep you occupied. Keep up to date by checking in here or following us on Facebook for more best Christmas vacation tips!
