Tall Ship Whale Watching on Gold Coast (incl. 1300 WHALES)

Tall Ship operate this very large catamaran which goes out daily during whale watching season from Mariner's Cove marina which is next to Marina Mirage at Main Beach.

One of the things I like about this tour is that this catamaran is well designed for passenger comfort, especially those who aren't particularly comfortable going on water.

This boat is also used for broadwater cruises up to McLaren's Landing on South Stradbroke Island during the summer months.

Quick Facts about Tall Ship Whale Watching

Tall Ship Australia who run these whale watching cruises claim to have the biggest boat. I am not sure about that, but the MV 2000 is certainly is pretty big at 32m!

Find out why my English friends think that size does matter!

Whale watching cruises depart daily from late May through to early November at 9am from Mariners Cove Marina next to Marina Mirage, Main Beach.

This half day tour returns around 11.30pm. Like most tours you need to be there about half an hour before the cruise departs to check-in, board the vessel and get settled.

The office for this cruise is at Mariners Cove next to Marina Mirage. There is free parking at Mariners Cove in the open air car park. The office is located next to the wharf at the far end of the carpark. It is signposted by A Frame boards as you approach the water.

Once you have checked-in at the main Tall Ship Cruise office you will be ushered to the boat.

The catamaran is easy to find as it is the largest boat on that arm of marina! I haven't been on this whale watching cruise myself, but some friends of mine have. You can read their review of this whale watching cruise

About This Gold Coast Whale Watching Tour Operator

This tour is operated by Tall Ship Australia who also run cruises to McLaren's landing on South Stradbroke Island.

The boat used for the whale watching is a catamaran that they use for fast transfers to their South Stradbroke Island retreat called McLarens Landing.

Tall Ship Gold Coast also have the sailing tall ship Sir Henry Morgan which they use for a leisurely cruise up the broadwater to South Stradbroke Island for island adventures.

Bookings are essential especially during peak holiday seasons. You can book your Tall Ship Whale Watching Cruise online here to save time.

Whale Watching Cruise From Main Beach

As with all whale watching deals I highly recommend booking in early to ensure you get the cruise dates you want.

The operators of this cruise are professional, they've been around for as long as I have been in the Gold Coast! It's a big boat, which gives you quite a bit of comfort, especially if you are not so familiar with going on boats.

This cruise leaves from Mariners Cove Marina, which is next door to Marina Mirage in Main Beach. If you require transfers, they can be organised directly with the tour operator after booking. Otherwise, you can catch a taxi from Surfers Paradise or use a public bus.

Morning Cruises depart daily during the season around 9am returning by approximately 11.30am. Check-in by 8.30am.

All cruises are dependent upon weather conditions, if they have to cancel they offer a full refund or the option to reschedule.

I always recommend you plan your itinerary for your holiday beforehand. Book your cruise before you arrive in Gold Coast and make sure it is early in the vacation. That way you can reschedule rather than miss out on seeing the whales.

They offer the following guarantee: 'If no whales are sighted, a free open dated Whale Watch voucher will be issued on return of cruise and/or upgraded to a full afternoon island tour that day, FREE of charge, as no refunds will be given.'

Where Tall Ship Whale Watching Cruise Departs

Map below shows what is around Marina Mirage where the cruise departs from. You can see where the boats are moored approximately. One thing to note is that you must walk down the correct arm on the marina, otherwise you will have to walk all the way back if you get it wrong! You cannot just hop across to the other arm, although it looks like it! This is because there are actually two marinas at Marina Mirage, just to confuse you! Marina Mirage marina is directly behind the shopping centre, whilst Mariners Cove Marina is behind the open air car park.

If you need to drive, you can easily park across the road, under Circle on Cavill or Chevron Renaissance. Parking charges will apply.

There are a couple of great advantages for this whale watch including the convenience of the departure location, a bonus canal cruise to see the houses of the rich and famous from the Gold Coast before you head out to see the whales and the flexibility to choose one of 4 daily cruises to see the whales.

Cruises are just over 3 hours and depart at 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm daily. You need to be checked in at least 20 minutes before departure.
