It even has a whale tail on the top deck as a shade!

Whale watching tours depart daily during whale watching season from the Sea World Terminal.

This boat is also used for broadwater cruises and charters.

Quick Facts about Sea World Whale Watching

Sea World Whale Watching started operation in June 2008 but have drawn on the experience of the very experienced and popular Kaikoura Whale Watch on the South Island of New Zealand..

The Sea World Whale Watch tours depart twice daily during the whale watching season from June to November at 10.00am and 2pm. They return to Sea World about 12.30pm and the later one by about 4.30pm. You should arrive by 30 minutes before departure times.

Departure is from the Sea World Terminal which is located at Sea World, Main Beach. You will find the terminal on the broadwater side of the car park see map below.

Make sure you are at the jetty about half an hour before the tour departs.

Booking is essential for these tours.  Get in early to avoid disappointment, especially during school holidays as these whale watching tours fill up quickly and are very popular.

The Sea World Whale Watch boat is operated by Whale Watch Australia which is owned by the renowned Kaikoura Whale Watch from New Zealand.

Kaikoura Whale Watch offer visitors to New Zealand's South Island a superb whale watching experience.  Kaikoura is about 3 hours drive north of Christchurch.

This experience from both sides means that they are certainly aiming to ensure that their boat and the technology they use is the cutting edge for whale watching.

Review of this Gold Coast Whale Watching Tour

2009 Review

Initially, I wasn't very positive about this whale watching tour in comparison to the other options on the Gold Coast because of the price. However, in 2009 the price of tickets has been structured to be on a level with the other Gold Coast tour operators.

Prices were such an issue that I couldn't recommend this tour as I didn't see it provided much extra value for the extra price tag. However, there are certainly reasons now to pick this whale watch tour.

Sea World also used to run an early tour at 7am which meant that you could do the tour on the generally more calmer ocean and then have the rest of the day to spend at either at Sea World or else somewhere else in paradise! However, sadly in 2009 that tour has been dropped.

The 11am tour will not be much different from any of the other Gold Coast whale watching tours and now the pricing is on a par with the other Gold Coast whale watching tours, I would have to say this one would be worthwhile considering because the boat is the newest and state of the art.

You can book whale watch tours directly by phone or online with My Fun, however they charge a booking fee both for phone bookings and online bookings, plus credit card surcharges. You can book online without fees and charges through our preferred booking agent.

There is limited wheelchair access and availability, which I don't think is available on any of the other Gold Coast whale watching boats, but is also available on Brisbane Whale Watching from Redcliffe, northern Brisbane area. You will need to let them know when booking.

Sea World Whale Watch have an age limit for children, and Under 3's are not allowed on the boat.

If there are no whale sightings on your tour, you will be offered a return tour during the current whale season.

Overall, this is a tour operator is worth considering.

Here is a video of a whale right by the Sea World Cruise boat. This is the kind of sighting you can have! This should give you a taste for what you will see, without spoiling ALL the fun! To be there, is way cooler than watching it on video! Enjoy this whale watching video.
