Public Transport to Gold Coast Theme Parks

Is there public transport to Gold Coast theme parks from Main Beach?

I will be taking my family for vacation in Gold Coast in September and will be staying in an apartment around Main Beach.

Is there bus/train service to Sea World and Movie World theme parks and how much is the fare roughly?

There is public transport that you can take to both Sea World and Movie World. However, probably the easiest way to get around if you are not hiring a car is to get a transfer package.

Rather than describe all the options here, you can check out all the transfer options not just for the theme parks, but also packages that include Gold Coast Airport transfers and shuttles to Gold Coast theme parks which are one great price and easy to organise.

If you don't need the Gold Coast Airport transfers then check out the Theme Park Transfers which just covers the theme park shuttles.

Getting to Gold Coast Theme Parks on Public Buses

Alternatively if you just want to do it yourself on the public bus system Sea World is in Main Beach but is away from most of the Main Beach apartments so you need to catch a bus or taxi there. You may have to walk to one of the bus routes.

The bus I know about is the bus 705 which goes along Main Beach Parade and up to Sea World. You will have to walk to a bus stop on Main Beach Parade and catch the 705 bus. It stops directly outside Sea World.

I am not sure of the timetables but you can check on the Journey Planner for Public Transport in Brisbane and Gold Coast - make sure if you use it that you select All Available Services otherwise it doesn't work for the Gold Coast and sometimes you have to increase or decrease the walking distance to get it to work.

It isn't the best or easiest of planners to use, but it is all we have!

For the Sea World trip you are only travelling in one zone. You can buy a paper ticket on board the bus, or get a GoCard if you think you will use public transport as you main way to get around Gold Coast. The prices change from time to time so check out the journey planner link above for more information and up to date prices.

If you have a few of you travelling, it may be cheaper to catch a taxi to Sea World from Main Beach. The apartment where you are staying can probably book the taxi and the return journey for you. Depending where you are in Main Beach expect to pay between $10 to $15 each way, and make sure to get quote before you get in a taxi.

Movie World is at Oxenford/Helensvale area which is can be reached using a combination of the G:Link Tram line up to Helensvale Station and then catching Theme Park Express TX7 bus.

Please Note: Before the G:link tram was opened, there used to be Express Buses that did this route. They no longer operate.

There is a Main Beach station on the G:Link line, it is on the far side of the Gold Coast Highway opposite the end of Tedder Avenue. You will have to either take a taxi, uber or walk there depending on how far it is from your accommodation.

Generally, catching a taxi or Uber to Movie World may not be worth it. That will depend on how many people in your family. 5 people and over you pay an extra premium in a taxi. I would estimate it to be about $50 each way for 4 people. I usually recommend the shuttle options as they can work out better value, but you will need to work that out for your group!

There are no train stations in Main Beach or Surfers Paradise, so trains are NOT an option to get to the theme parks.

There are two other popular options for Gold Coast theme park transfers and they are to use one of the special theme park buses or to hire a car and drive yourself.

For example Gold Coast Theme Park transfers will pick you up from your apartments (but not private residences) and take you and bring you back from the theme parks.

This is just one of the options, there are many more which you can check out in the transport section. You can even combine "transport passes" to include picking you up from the airport on arrival.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions, please use the comment section below and I will answer them as.

Have fun and hope to see you on the Gold Coast sometime soon.

Thanks for the Heads Up On Route Number Change
by: Annie

I have caught that bus many years ago and I am pretty sure it was the 750. However, I note that it now appears to be the 705, so it is possible I transposed the numbers! Routes do change, however, so I suggest checking out the Translink site for latest information. Thanks once again for pointing out, really appreciate it, Cheers Annie

Theme Park Bus Transfer Answers
by: Annie

Hi LynKhairi,
I will answer fairly shortly here, if you want a full answer, please Contact Me using my online email form and I will answer in more details directly.

Answers
1. Yes there are public buses that go to each theme park, but how convenient they are to you depends on where you are staying.

2. Movie World and Wet n Wild are next to each other and you can easily walk between the two (probably takes 5 minutes). Paradise Country is about a 5 minute drive/taxi ride from Movie World/Wet n Wild, but it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk it (and probably not recommended with younger children particularly in the heat). Sea World is on the Spit in Main Beach and is much closer to Surfers Paradise.

If you contact me directly, I can have a look at where you staying and make some suggestions. The bus services are not particularly cheap for the theme park Wet n Wild, Movie World and Paradise Country due to the popularity and the fact they put on express buses. Let me know if you need more information.
Cheers
Annie

Theme Parks By Public Transport
by: LynKhairi

Hi Annie,

My family and I will be for a trip to Gold Coast in March and we plan to visit Seaworld, Movie World, Wet and Wild and paradise Country. We will be staying in Surfer Paradise. We plan to get around by bus.

1. May I know whether each theme parks has a public bus services which stops near the main entrance? We are travelling with 4 adults and 2 kids (4 and 7 yrs old).

2.Between the 4 themeparks mentioned above, are they close to one another? I mean, can I go to Seaworld in the morning and go to Paradise Country in the afternoon
without taking another bus? Are they within walking distance?

I have also surveyed the theme park transfer service but I found the price is quite expensive.

Appreciate your advice. Thanks;)
