Whale Watching Video Of Humpbacks From Gold Coast Australia

On this page you will find my attempts at video plus some from others who have also experienced the magic of whale watching cruises on the Gold Coast.

If you take any interesting video footage whilst whale watching on the Gold Coast please let me know and perhaps I can include it here for everyone else to share too.

Here is a raw video that I took whilst on a whale watch cruise off Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast one August. These whales were just hanging around the boat, it was amazing.

August is mid season, so you can see some whales still going north, whilst others are returning south and if you are lucky mothers with calves.

It was my first video with my still camera - so I apologise for how raw it is.

I still thought it worth sharing as it really gives a sense of what it was like just hanging out there with the humpback whales, drifting in the ocean 9 miles off Surfers Paradise beach!

In June 2013 the laws changed for Queensland whale watching operators so now you don't have to go out so far to see the whales. You used to have to go out a minimum of 3 miles into Commonwealth waters, but now you can stop and look at the whales much closer to shore.

This is great news, especially for those who don't feel to great on a boat!

Whale Watching Video by Visiting Poms

Here is a video of humpback whales taken off the Gold Coast by some visiting Poms (I can say that as I am one too!). I love this video because it captures both the whales and the excitment of seeing these incredible creatures in their own environment.

Regardless of which whale watching tour operator you choose to go with, I think the whales win. Just make sure you get out there and see them!

This is the only whale watching cruise that leaves from the centre of Surfers Paradise.

If you are staying in Surfers, Broadbeach, Main Beach or even Southport, you can either walk (Surfers Paradise only) or take the new G:Link or a bus to this cruise. No need to use an attraction transfer for this one!

If you need to drive, you can easily park across the road, under Circle on Cavill or Chevron Renaissance. Parking charges will apply.

There are a couple of great advantages for this whale watch including the convenience of the departure location, a bonus canal cruise to see the houses of the rich and famous from the Gold Coast before you head out to see the whales and the flexibility to choose one of 4 daily cruises to see the whales.

Cruises are just over 3 hours and depart at 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm daily. You need to be checked in at least 20 minutes before departure.

This whale watching company offers the following guarantee: 'Guaranteed whale sightings or free return cruise.'

All cruises are dependent upon weather conditions, which is why I always recommend you plan your itinerary for your holiday beforehand.

Book your cruise before you arrive in Gold Coast and make sure it is early in the vacation.

This is in case it has to be rescheduled due to weather conditions - it would be terrible to miss out on seeing the whales.
