Gold Coast Theme Park Passes Explained!
In the Gold Coast there are 3 main theme parks and two water theme parks.
Unfortunately, you cannot buy a pass that gets you access to all 5, but there are combination passes for some of the parks.

The most popular choices for visitors to the Gold Coast for theme park passes are the Super Pass (3 parks MovieWorld, Sea World and Wet n Wild) and the Escape Pass (choice of 2 of the three parks listed in Super Pass).

Child Tickets, Adult Tickets and Pensioner Tickets

Usually, the price then shown is the lowest price and for theme parks. The lowest price is generally a child ticket price, which can be confusing or frustrating if you base your budget on those cheapest tickets.
On the Gold Coast the theme parks have certain terms and conditions that is is worthwhile looking out for. Things such as the age range of children from 3 years to 13 years. Therefore if you have children aged 14 and over you will have to purchase them a full Adult ticket.
Pensioners are usually limited to those who are card holding Australian or New Zealand pensioners or meet other criteria which differ from park to park. Again, it pays to check the fine print.
When budgeting or planning your trip it is important to take these things into consideration and to check the terms and conditions of any Gold Coast theme park passes that you might purchase.
Gold Coast Theme Park Passes versus Tickets
Another common question I get about Gold Coast theme park passes and tickets is whether you get access to the same rides and attractions.
In general, and I have to say that because the theme parks like to keep me on my toes, whether you purchase a one day entry ticket, a holiday pass or an annual pass you gain the same access to the park. There is no difference once you are inside the front gates*.
* And now for the dislaimer: There are from time to time, special events or promotions whereby certain passholders gain access to events or rides that would normally be at an extra cost. These are usually clearly stated in the terms and conditions when you purchase showing what you will and will not get.
And addressing another common question, do you pay extra for rides once inside the parks? There are some extra rides and attractions that are pay per use and therefore extra in each of the different theme parks, however, you can certainly go in and enjoy many of the rides and attractions without paying extra.
In all the times we have gone to the theme parks of the Gold Coast, we have never paid extra for any rides! But if there is something you particularly want to do, you should check out to see if it is an additional cost. For example in SeaWorld - the helicopters and animal adventures are extra and so is the water park.

The theme parks in the Gold Coast are owned by two separate groups.
One group owns:

- Movieworld (Warner Bros MovieWorld) in Oxenford, Gold Coast
- Wet n Wild WaterWorld water fun park next door to Movieworld in Oxenford, Gold Coast
- Sea World in Main Beach, Gold Coast

Many visitors to the Gold Coast are looking for deals for theme park entry and often want deals to visit Sea World, DreamWorld and Movie World.
Whilst there are options for two out of the three, there are no deals that encompass all three of these theme parks because they are owned by two separate groups.

- Holiday World Pass is for the two parks DreamWorld and Whitewater World for unlimited entry for 21 consecutive days and has been specifically designed for visitors to the Gold Coast. This pass can be purchased by anyone from Australia and Overseas. This pass is the only one that also has a Family option which offers even more savings for groups with 2 adults and 2 children (3 to 13 years). - 1 Day World Passes offer access to both DreamWorld and Whitewater World for one day. If you are only able to spend one day at these parks and want to do both, this is the pass for you. Best Gold Coast Theme Park Passes for Locals
Locals are usually referred to in the terms and conditions of the passes. Mostly the sale of these passes is limited to residents in the local area of south east Queensland, Queensland and/or northern NSW postcodes. You will need to check the terms and conditions for purchase of these passes and proof of residence will be required.
- Locals VIP Pass is available only for residents of Qld and northern NSW. Unlimited entry to Sea World, MovieWorld and Wet n Wild until 30 June 2012. Great value $89.99 per person. Buy Locals VIP Pass
- Unlimited World Pass is for the two parks DreamWorld and Whitewater World for unlimited entry until 30 November 2012. This pass can be purchased by any residents, but is more likely to be appropriate for locals who will gain the most out of these passes by visiting multiple times through to November 2012. - Locals Summer Pass is NO LONGER available. It was only for residents of Qld and northern NSW and was for unlimited entry to Sea World, MovieWorld and Wet n Wild until 29 February 2012. Sale ended 31 December 2011.
