Australian Gold Coast in April

April is an Autumn month and is an awesome time to visit the Gold Coast, especially if you can visit outside of school holidays.

Public holidays in this month can include Easter (though it moves around year to year, so check the dates), and 25 April is ANZAC Day, so keep that in mind when planning.

Golf is a popular reason to visit the Gold Coast at any time, but April heralds the start of the cooler weather making it even more appealing!

More than 30 Golf Courses in and around the Gold Coast area, means you are bound to find something to your liking! Don't forget those amazing resorts built around golf courses at Carrara, Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove.

April in the Gold Coast usually has great weather for seeing the coast by air. Check out a sunrise from a hot air balloon or real estate in a helicopter.

At this time of year, along the coast you will see surfing and other water sports. You can take a lesson, hire some equipment and have a go or just watch the amateurs and professionals competing at many of local and state competitions held during this month.

In the hinterland you can experience native Australian wildlife in a rainforest setting. The possibilities are almost endless!

When Easter falls in April, there are public and school holidays.

ANZAC day falls in April with most shops and businesses (including Gold Coast theme parks and attractions) closed for at least the morning and some will be closed all day. It is wise to check opening times for ANZAC day.

Typical Weather

Still hot and by most standards humid, but the humidity definitely starts to drop from here. Some rain and chance of storms.

Autumn weather usually pretty amazing! The top temperatures are just easing a bit, and it does get a bit cooler in the evenings.

Less rain than the summer months, but you can still expect some rainy days in April, however, it is usually much less rain than the summer months.

I'd still pack an umbrella or rain jacket and a light jumper or jacket for the evenings or vists to rainforest.

You can still enjoy the Gold Coast and theme parks on most days when it is raining. Check out my rainy day tips.

Tips for Travelers to Gold Coast in April

For Australian Visitors

Weatherwise April is great time to visit the Gold Coast.

Avoid school holidays if you don’t have school age children and if you need to visit during school holidays, make sure you book early to get the accommodation you want.

Accommodation with air-conditioning is still recommended at this time of year, though not as important as the hotter months (November, December, January, February and March).

The kids can enjoy the water fun on the Gold Coast with great ocean temperatures and fun at Sea World Resort Water Park, Dreamworld's WhiteWater World or Wet n Wild.

Pack for warm weather, but have a couple of layers handy for any cooler times or if visiting the hinterland which can be much cooler than the coastal areas. I always pack a rain jacket just in case it showers, and they don't take up much room.

For Visitors from Overseas

April is a truly great time of year to visit the Gold Coast – the weather is usually very accommodating!

If you need to travel around the Easter or school holiday periods be aware that accommodation and flights within Australia tend to book up early. This is especially true if you are after a good deal.

In the main areas most businesses catering for visitors remain open (at least partially) throughout Easter, but if you are off the beaten track a little be conscious that holidays to Aussies are sacred and most things will be shut! Particularly Good Friday.

Quality, air-conditioned accommodation in a good location is still the best pick, especially if you are not used to a humid climate.

Adults and kids of most ages can enjoy the water fun on the Gold Coast with great ocean temperatures and fun at water parks such as Sea World Resort Water Park, WhiteWater World or Wet n Wild.

Pack clothing for warm weather (shorts and t-shirts), but have a couple of layers or longer clothes handy for any cooler times. If you are planning on visiting Gold Coast rainforest areas in our hinterland, you will need warmer clothing as it can be much cooler than the coastal areas.

Pack a rain jacket or umbrella for rain showers too. Neither take up much room and it is much nicer not to get wet!
