Australian Gold Coast in March

March is the first month of Autumn, and it's one of my favourite times on the Gold Coast. There's still plenty of sizzling warm weather, but it is cooler and less humid than the summer months.

It's great for going to the beach. And there are so many Gold Coast beaches to choose from! Each beach has its own personality.

Lots of local surf and surf lifesaving events are held this month. You'll also find the pro-surfers in town to catch the great surf at this time of year!

If surfing is not your thing you can walk, play, laze on one of the amazing beaches.

Why not try a new beach each day!

Other great activities at this time of year are the theme parks, deep sea and reef fishing or bird watching in the rainforest. In March you can do just about everything the Gold Coast can offer, except the whales are still in Antarctica, so no whale watching this month.

Depending upon when Easter falls, there may be school holidays during March.

I particularly recommend March, for those who can travel outside school holidays. It can be an excellent choice for visitors looking for warm to hot weather. You may still get, some rain.

Outside of school holidays you will find less crowds and shorter queues at the Gold Coast attractions and theme parks.

Gold Coast in March is definitely a month when there is so much to do, so little time. So make sure you plan well!

All the information below is updated each year to keep it current. I recommend, if you haven't already, that you get a copy of my planning cheat sheets. Use the information on this page to fill them in, to help plan your holiday.

Hot, humid, rainy with some possibility of storms particularly in the late afternoon.

This early autumn weather is not much different to summer – just a little less hot!

Expect rain with an average 15 rainy days per month and with 13% of annual rainfall during this month. Rain generally falls during the summer storms which include thunder, lightning and form during the late afternoon.

Bring an umbrella or rain jacket and maybe a light jumper or jacket for the evenings or vists to rainforest, especially later in the month.

You can still enjoy the Gold Coast and theme parks on most days when it is raining. Check out my rainy day tips.

Tips for Travelers to Gold Coast in March

For Australian Visitors

A great time to visit, especially if you do not have school aged children.

Accommodation with air-conditioning is still highly recommended at this time of year, as it can still be quite warm in the afternoons and evenings and the aircon helps make sleeping more pleasant!

Pack rain mac or umbrella and be prepared for showers at times.

For Visitors from Overseas

March is still hot by most peoples standards but seems much more bearable than the summer months.

When Easter falls in March sometimes the school holidays don't coincide with Easter. In the main areas most businesses catering for visitors remain open throughout Easter, but if you are off the beaten track you need to be aware that holidays to Aussies are sacred and most things will be shut! Especially Good Friday.

Good quality, air-conditioned accommodation in a good location is still the best pick for a beach vacation.

Pack clothes for warm humid weather and a rain jacket or umbrella for those showers that are likely during this month.

At this time of the year most of our overseas visitors are coming from Spring weather to our Autumn. However, do not be confused by us calling it Autumn, it is still warm throughout the month especially during the daytime. It is unlikely you will feel cold, though a light jumper or jacket would be good for evenings later in the month or visits to our hinterland.

The ocean is definitely warm enough to swim in and younger kids will enjoy the beaches and water theme parks because of the great climate at this time of the year.
